No Mention Of "Deaflympics" In National Media In The Past 24 Hours-!
Yesterday, the Commission on the State of the U.S. Olympics and Paralympics issued its 277-page report. The Commission has one recommendation for the Deaflympics - read it in the above picture. Nine of the 277 pages tell Congress about the Deaflypian’s struggles.
Suddenly, no national media has mentioned hundreds of forgotten deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes.
Associated Press - Olympic commission suggests wide-ranging changes to SafeSport and USOPC.
USAToday - U.S. Center for SafeSport needs independence and increase commission, Commission says
Washington Post - Fixing Olympic and youth sports requires federal intervention, report says (subscribed?)
Sports Business Journal - Commission: SafeSport should be independent
Law 360 - Commission Eyes Sweeping Changes To U.S. Olympic Model (subscribed).
Wall Street Journal - Olympic Commission Wants to Put the U.S. Government in Charge of Youth Sports (subscribed)
As of 9 am EST today, only seven new publications are writing about the CSUSOP Final Report, although some minor publications, including Colorado Springs Gazette, printed the AP article. (Read my previous issue - CSUSOP Hearing - Press Coverage???)
In his observation about the report, Sports Examiners Editor Rich Perelman concluded, “But that’s in the future. The Commission has come and gone. Now the politics start."
Be prepared to listen (or feel) to the rumbling politics from the past, present, and future Deaflympians in the coming months as the Paralympians did in 1998.
