On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics (CSUSOP) held a public hearing, “The Future of Olympic and Paralympic Sports in America,” in Washington, DC.
How many accredited journalists covered this CSUSOP hearing?
It seemed to have at least four: Associated Press Reporter Eddie Pells, Associated Press Photographer Jose Luis Magana (pictured), Defector Reporter Diana Moskovitz, and C-SPAN television crew members.
No reporters from the Washington Post, the New York Times, USA Today, or the Colorado Springs Gazette (hometown of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee - USOPC), despite the CSUSOP receiving $2 million from Congress to use the budget.
A.P.’S Pells flew from Denver to cover the hearing and wrote, “SafeSport Center ‘in potential crisis’ according to panel’s survey of Olympic system.” But he didn’t mention the Deaflympics.
Defector ran an article titled “Ex-Union Chief Donald Fehr Says Olympic And Paralympic Athletes Need Their Own Type Of Union.”
That’s all. Sorry!
No ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, or NBC News television crews existed in this CSUSOP hearing.
However, the C-SPAN has a series of four videos:
Part 1: Opening Remarks & The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement: A Historical View; and Governance & Accountability; (412 views)
Part 2: Protecting the Safety of Movement Participants (177 views)
Part 3: Athletes’ Rights, Equity, & Accessibility and Ensuring Fair Play (114 views)
Part 4: How to Build a Better Future for Sports in America (100 views)
Top Six Views in the C-SPAN User Clip:

13 Views on “The Need to Include the Deaf”
5 Views on “Travis Tygart - Independence”

On behalf of the forgotten USA Deaflympians, I, as a USOC at-large member of the USOC Handicapped in Sports Committee (1979-81), thank C-SPAN for exposing the shining name of the Deaflympics. However, C-SPAN misspelled it as “Deaf Olympics.”
No matter, but one man watched the C-SPAN live video all day in his Rancho Mirage, California home. He wrote three Sports Examiner newsletter issues about the CSUSOP hearing: 09/07/23, 09/08/23 (including Deaflympics), and 09/12/23.
On August 11, 2020, I sent the first-ever email to the Editor of The Sports Examiner and asked him whether he had covered the Deaflympics. Twelve hours later, he replied with one word: Nope!
Almost two years later, on January 31, 2022, Editor Rich Perelman exclaimed, “Let’s hope it is appropriately re-worded and soon. And congratulations for [Howard] Gorrell for working so hard to right something that is wrong,“ after reading “On the trail of display errors at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum.”
Since then, Perelman has used Deaflympics in 13 newsletter issues in 19 months!!!
Also, Perelman is the one who mentioned CSUSOP in his 36 newsletter issues since January 16, 2019. Check his CSUSOP list.
Why not sign up for his newsletter if you are an Olympic addict?
