Actually, NO ONE called me “Howie” until a Dayton Daily News reporter put that name on this article below in 1960.
The reporter might have misheard my mother’s pronouncement of my name. Mom always called me “Howard Lee.” So her West Virginia accent of “HOWard lEE” might make the reporter think, “Howie.”
Hmm!
