U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum
My #2 is to see that the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM) would correct the display errors related to the Amateur Sports Act of 1978 (ASA) by my 80th birthday.
The Colorado Springs Gazette newspaper ran the front-page story on January 30, 2022 - On the trail of display errors at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum - so you will be able to read the whole story.
The artifact display case on the ASA (not the wall) is at the end of a jetty off the top floor’s main space (by sprint track lanes). Therefore, It is the most hidden spot in the entire Museum.
On October 24, 2022, the USOPM established the “Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act and Title IX” working group to correct these errors. Led by USOPM’s VP of Athlete Engagement Michelle Dusserre Farrell, the group has consisted of Donna de Varona (a two-time Olympic swimming champion), Howard Gorrell, Mike Harrigan (the Executive Director of the President’s Commission on Olympic Sports), and Gary Johansen (a former aide to Sen. Ted Stevens.)
The working group held five virtual meetings on the following dates: October 24, 2022; November 21, 2022; January 9, 2023; March 28, 2023; and July 24, 2023.
On November 3, 2023, Michelle Farrell informed us that she jumped from the Museum to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Headquarters (0.5 miles away), where she became the Director of Sport and Athlete Services.
Michelle informed the new USOCM CEO, Marisa Wigglesworth, about this working group.
The group is still waiting for the CEO's new action as of this writing.
This empty boardroom is still waiting for all TSOASA-Title IX Working Group members to be ready for the unveiling ceremony of the revised ASA Display.
After reading the 2022 Gazette article, The Sports Examiner Editor Rick Perelman pounded his hand on his desk and typed the below on his daily issue:
Let’s hope it is appropriately reworded soon. Congratulations to Gorrell on working so hard to right something wrong.
But when ??????????????
