Yesterday, I drove 75 miles on the winding Route 7 (on an average of 45 mph) from Morgantown, WV, to the Tyler Star News office in Sisterville, WV (Pop. 1,413), to pick up a few copies of its Veteran Day issue since the paper had yet to publish my dad’s war poem on online.
You can read the clear one by clicking “Dad's WWII Poem In Italy.”
What the odd name of Sisterville! The history says that it was named because two sisters inherited the land from their father, pioneer, in 1815. There is no Brotherville in the USA.
Special Thanks to Reporter Randy Rutheford for running this poem.
Errata
In his poem, my dad wrote, “My poetry is poor.” So, I guess my journalism might be poor because I made at least two significant mistakes in my previous issues.
● Errata: A few deaf sport leaders of yesterday’s post got puzzled by one word - tormented - as a reference to George Wilding. I got goofed by the mix-up by using synonyms and antonyms. If George were alive, you would love to listen to his jokes because he could make you laugh to the floor. My apology goes to the Wilding family. Thanks to reader Billy Bowman for the sharp eyes! ●
● Errata: One typo error is in the “Top Ten Views To Read.”It says, “President’s Council on Olympic Sports.” It should be “President’s Commission on Olympic Sports.” My apologies to Michael Harrigan, the former executive director of the latter, who found the error. Thanks to his sharp eyes. ●
