United States Women’s Basketball Head Coach Cheryl Reeve said that phrase after being asked by USA TODAY Sports correspondent Nancy Rumor at Team USA Media Summit, hosted the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square on mid-April 2024.
Two months later, on June 8, Nancy Rumor posted on “X”, which received 262.9K views:
One last thing: When I asked Cheryl Reeve at the USOPC Summit about Clark, she said, “I’ve never been in the trenches with her.” Not even at a USA Basketball camp
Asking a coach to integrate someone she has no history with, at a tournament with the highest stakes, is a lot. A lot a lot.
News media across the nation blew up after news leaked that Caitlin Clark, one of the greatest collegiate players of all time, would not be named to the U.S. Olympic basketball team by USA Basketball.

There was no national media outrage after, on March 1, 2024, the Commission on the State of U.S Olympics and Paralympics (CSUSOP) decided not to recommend - Amend the Deaflympics into the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.
Instead, the CSUSOP has urged Congress to “study further the challenges faced by deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes and proposals to integrate deaf sports into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movement.” Also, the CSUSOP recommended that “USOPC should work with the U.S.A. Deaf Sports Federation to remove impediments to its full use of Deaflympic trademarks and access to sponsorship.”
No surprise to me. There was no media to run an article about the CSUSOP recommendations for the forgotten Deaflympians.

Deaf Swimmer at the U.S. Olympic Trials
This weekend, Indianapolis will host the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials for the 2024 Paris Games.
Question: Does any media know that the new Notre Dame freshman, Carli Cronk, is the only deaf athlete to qualify to compete in the 2024 Swimming Trials?
If she makes the 2024 USA Team, Carli will become the second USA Deaflympian to compete in the Olympics.
