A decade ago, my daughter told me that ice cream at Chick-fil-A tasted like my mother’s recipe-!!!
I replied I know!
I still have an ice cream freezer (in my storage.) I need to know when the last time was that I made homemade ice cream by myself.
Homemade Ice Cream Socials
Today, finding any HOMEMADE Ice Cream Socials around here is more complicated.
When I grew up in Farmersville, Ohio (1950 pop. 587), there was a homemade ice cream social every summer Saturday at rotated local churches and organizations. After eating ice cream, I played with my friends while our parents chatted.
U.S. Presidents Eating Ice Cream
We know that Joe Biden loves to eat ice cream, but I don’t know whether the White House chef makes actual homemade ice cream for him and his family. I am sure that he loved homemade ice cream when he grew up in Scranton, PA.
When my daughter was a high school student, she urged me to meet her boyfriend (then husband) for the first time by meeting him at the Baskin-Robbins store in Maryland, where he worked. I did meet him and ordered an ice cream sundae from him.
Barack Obama was the only President to work at the ice cream shop. His first job was working as a teenager at a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Honolulu, Hawaii.
"My first summer job wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it taught me some valuable lessons. Responsibility. Hard work. Balancing a job with friends, family, and school," said Obama.
These lessons led my son-in-law to become an American Airlines pilot.
In 2018, Ben & Jerry’s released the “10 Presidents Who Loved Ice Cream.”
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
Abraham Lincoln
Gerald Ford
Ronald Reagan
Bill Clinton
George W. Bush
Barack Obama
Vice President Joe Biden
In 1784, George Washington bought the ice cream maker (pictured below) for $3.00
President Thomas Jefferson was the first American to write down an ice cream recipe (18-step long.) Historians found out that his granddaughter, Virginia Jefferson Randolph (Trist), wrote a similar recipe and claimed that Adrien Petit, Jefferson’s French butler, was the original source of this recipe.
Try to make Jefferson’s Ice Cream Recipe.
Dolley Madison, the wife of President James Madison, popularized ice cream in the White House after serving ice cream at his Inaugural Ball in 1813.
Ice Cream or Gelato?
Naturally, I prefer gelato to ice cream. I have no description until you taste the gelato for the first time, so you will find out why you get hooked.
Where could I stir the freezer?
I used the bathtub to stir the freezer in the past, but it was uncomfortable.
My current apartment building has a pet washing station, so I will ask the management if I could stir the freezer there.
Recipe
Since I will turn 80 this July, I am happy to release the below recipe for you.
Enjoy stirring your freezer and then eating homemade ice cream.

I could go to Chick-fil-A when I feel tempted to taste ice cream like my mother made, but I have no time to stir the freezer.
"A frozen dairy treat with an old-fashioned vanilla taste," describes Chick-Fil-A.
