CSUSOP Hearing Sees Call for U.S. Government Funding of Olympic Sports
Big Brother 25 Update: Deaf World Record Holder Matt Klotz Leads
Finally, two more documents are related to the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics hearing on September 6.
“CSUSOP hearing sees call for U.S. Government funding of Olympic Sports.”
“Olympic and Paralympic Commission hears reform ideas.”
Both are connected to the Commission agenda - “How to Build a Better Future for Sports in America.” Watch the C-SPAN video on this agenda.
The Sports Examiners also ran a newsletter issue related to this agenda.
11 Million Americans????
My Deaflympian friend texted me, puzzled by “11 million Americans.” He referred to the Aspen Institute’s Sports & Society Program’s quote, “[CSUSOP is] studying entities that shape the sport ecosystem for 11 million Americans.”
The Worldmeter estimated on July 16 that the U.S.A. population is 340,375,203.
Do you believe that 3.23% (11 million) of Americans currently participate in sports programs? Or are the others participating in the Computer Olympiad of the International Olympiad in Informatics?
The Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act created a statute (36 U.S.C. § 220506) governing the USOPC's trademark rights.
§220506. Exclusive right to name, seals, emblems, and badges
(a) Exclusive Right of Corporation.—Except as provided in subsection (d) of this section, the [United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee] has the exclusive right to use—
(4) the words "Olympic," "Olympiad," "Citius Altius Fortius," "Paralympic," "Paralympiad," "Pan-American," "Parapan American," "America Espirito Sport Fraternite" or any combination of those words.
Why have the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) not filed lawsuits against the Computer Olympiad of the International Olympiad in Informatics, like what the USOC filed against the “Gay Olympic Games,” “Rat Olympics,” etc.? Better read “Olympics Go For the Gold In Trademark Enforcement.”
Meanwhile, the USOPC has refused to recognize the Deaflympics, which was approved by the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) in 2001 (22 years ago.)
By the way, the Aspen Institute should recalculate this “3.23%” number. Also, the USOPC must recognize the Deaflympics immediately while the 2023 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Assembly is held in Los Angeles!!! Click the Assembly schedule.
Yesterday, SwimSwam ran another article, “Big Brother 25 Update: Deaf World Record Holder Matt Klotz In Favorable Position Six Weeks In.”
At the 2022 Summer Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Klotz (pictured) set a new Deaflympic record for most medals ever by an athlete in a single Deaflympic Games, with 14 shiny pieces of metal (five golds, two silvers, and seven bronzes.)
Good Luck, Matt!
