CSUSOP - Back To 'United States Olympic Committee'
Suppose the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics (CSUSOP) would recommend that Congress amend Deaflympics into the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1998; the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) must change its name to the following:
United States Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic Committee (USOPDC) - based on when Congress amended (Olympic in 1961, Paralympic in 1998 and Deaflympic in 2024) or.
United States Olympic, Deaflympic and Paralympic Committee USODPC) - based on the establishment year (Olympic in 1894 [Not 1978, according to the U.S. Olympic &Paralympic Museum], Deaflympic in 1924 and Paralympic in 1960) or.
United States Deaflympic, Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USDOPC) - based on alphabetically.
No Way! Simply, it could be returned to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC.) Period!!!
Among 206 National Olympic Committees (NOC), the USOPC is one of ONLY TWO joint National Olympic and Paralympic committees worldwide to manage both Olympic and Paralympic sport nationally. The other is the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports. Do your math. These two are 0.97% of all NOCs.
In 1998, the Paralympians opened Pandora's box for other Olympic-type Games, such as the Deaflympics, Special Olympics, Senior Olympics, Gay Games, and Enhanced Games.
So, the National Olympic Committee for the United States will have a new acronym: USOPDSOSOGGEGC.
It could be not very smart. Just let the USOPC Board of Directors restore the name of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), effective after completing the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
NOTE: Section 5 of the Empowering Olympic, Paralympic, and Amateur Athletes Act of 2020 gives Congress the power to dissolve the USOPC Board of Directors directly. Click on the list of the Directors.
We hope that the current Board will act immediately. If not, the CSUSOP might consider requesting Congress to change the name.
The original Olympic motto comprises three Latin words: Citius - Altius - Fortius. These words mean Faster - Higher - Stronger.
