It is nothing in connection to “April Fools' Day.”
This picture was taken in Rijeka, Croatia, during a pause from daily walking to exercise during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. I sent it via Instagram and Facebook to my USA friends to tell them I was okay then.
On that day, I started monitoring the COVID data via the WorldOMeter.
April 1, 2020
Croatia: Total Cases - 963; Total Deaths - 6
United States: Total Cases - 38,621, Total Deaths - 5,529
October 28, 2020 (When I departed for the USA from Croatia)
Croatia: Total Cases - 38,621; Total Deaths - 470
United States: Total Cases - 9,167,531, Total Deaths - 239,293
April 1, 2024
Croatia: Total Cases - 1,309,728 Total Daily Deaths - 18,687
United States: Total Cases - 111,767,350; Total Deaths - 1,218,843.
According to WorldOMeter, the USA is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in Total Cases and Total Deaths, while Croatia is at No. 60 in Total Cases and No. 51 in Total Deaths. (North Korea still has not released the data!!!)
WorldOMeter states that the world currently has 704,541,829 Coronavirus cases and 7,008,961 deaths.
Two days earlier, on March 30, 2020, Croatia Week, a Croatian online magazine in English, ran an article about my being stranded happily in this country - An American tourist happily stranded in Croatia during the coronavirus pandemic.
Since my return to the USA on October 28, 2020, my friends asked me if I had been in Dubrovnik, Pula, Split, Zadar, etc. I answered no. They were puzzled, but I explained that these towns are popular tourist destinations, so I did not want to catch the COVID-19 virus from a tourist.
Where to stay? Four months in Rijeka (February to May), June in Drazice, July in Delnice, two months in Sestine (August and September), and October in Crikvenica. Yeah, these are not tourist traps!
Zagreb? Yes, Sestine is a suburban town north of Zagreb. It has lots of embassy residences.
I will write an issue on each town/city shortly for your reading.
I purposely wrote this issue to let you know the latest numbers. It is unfortunate!
